The Hunt for Gollum 2 (2024) opens with a haunting, atmospheric shot of Middle-earth, cloaked in mist. The trailer begins with Gandalf’s (Ian McKellen) voiceover, warning of a new darkness stirring in the lands beyond Mordor. “The creature is more dangerous than ever… he must be found,” he says ominously, referencing Gollum, who has been missing since the events of the first film.
The camera pans to Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), now older and more battle-worn, taking on the task of tracking down Gollum once again. The trailer teases an epic journey through unfamiliar regions of Middle-earth, as Aragorn, along with Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), set out to capture the elusive creature before he falls into the wrong hands. The stakes are higher, with whispers of a new threat – a dark force that seeks to harness Gollum’s knowledge of the One Ring for sinister purposes.
The teaser ramps up the tension as we catch glimpses of Gollum (Andy Serkis) scurrying through dense forests, his obsession with the Ring driving him madder than ever. Gollum’s dual personalities, Smeagol and Gollum, are more conflicted in this film, torn between escaping and returning to his precious. The trailer shows flashes of intense chase scenes, with Aragorn and his team traversing dangerous landscapes, from towering mountains to deep caves, relentlessly pursuing the creature.
Suddenly, the tone shifts as the trailer introduces a mysterious new villain – a sorcerer from the East, played by Richard Armitage, who seeks Gollum for his own dark agenda. A climactic battle looms as Aragorn and his allies face this new foe, with Middle-earth’s future once again hanging in the balance.
The final shot reveals Gollum hiding in the shadows, his eyes gleaming, muttering to himself: “No one will take it from us… no one.” The trailer ends with the title The Hunt for Gollum 2 flashing across the screen, and the tagline: “The hunt continues, but time is running out.”
