IO (2019), directed by Jonathan Helpert, is a reflective sci-fi drama set in a future where Earth has become uninhabitable.
The film follows Sam (Margaret Qualley), one of the last people on the planet, as she struggles to find hope for Earth’s survival rather than joining humanity’s migration to Io. 
With stunning cinematography and a poignant performance by Qualley, the film effectively portrays themes of isolation and environmental decay. 
However, its slow pacing and lack of narrative depth may leave some viewers unsatisfied. IO is a visually compelling but understated exploration of survival and resilience.
