Plot Summary:
Paradox (2017) is a time-twisting, low-budget sci-fi thriller that dares to ask: What happens when you glimpse your own death… and you’re still alive to stop it? A team of rogue scientists working in a secret underground lab successfully send one of their own (Zoë Bell) one hour into the future — only to discover their project ends in betrayal, fire, and murder. As time catches up with them, paranoia and desperation explode into chaos.
Concept & Execution:
The central concept is undeniably intriguing — think Primer meets Tenet, but on a much tighter budget. The film leans heavily into real-time tension, unfolding almost like a stage play with most of the action confined to the lab. It’s a race-against-the-clock thriller that plays with time loops, alternate timelines, and the consequences of peeking behind the curtain of fate.
Performances:
Zoë Bell, best known for her stunt work, proves she’s more than capable in a lead role, bringing intensity and grit to a character who’s not just fighting the clock, but her own teammates.
Malik Yoba adds some weight as the calculating project leader, though some of the supporting performances come off a bit flat.
Adam Huss is entertainingly unhinged as the scientist slowly losing his grip on reality.

Strengths & Weaknesses:
The script delivers plenty of twists and turns, some predictable, others genuinely surprising. The tension holds well throughout the first two acts, though the final stretch gets bogged down by exposition and a few logic-defying decisions.
Production-wise, Paradox does a lot with a little. While the effects are minimal, clever lighting, editing, and a pulsing synth soundtrack give the film a slicker feel than its budget would suggest. What it lacks in polish, it makes up for in ambition.
Final Thoughts:
Paradox (2017) may not be a blockbuster, but it’s a scrappy, cerebral thriller that earns points for its ideas and pacing. It’s the kind of movie that keeps you guessing, rewinding, and debating what really happened — and that’s part of the fun. If you’re a fan of twisty timelines, ethical dilemmas, and sci-fi with a bite, it’s worth a watch.
⏳ Verdict: 3/5 – A smart, gritty time-travel thriller that bends logic, twists trust, and sticks the landing… mostly.
