Review: No Time to Die (2021) – Bond 25
Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time to Die is the 25th installment in the James Bond franchise and the final film featuring Daniel Craig as the iconic spy. With high-stakes action, emotional depth, and a thrilling conclusion to Craig’s Bond era, the film delivers a satisfying yet bittersweet farewell.

Plot Summary
James Bond has retired and is living a peaceful life in Jamaica when his old friend, CIA agent Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright), asks for help. Bond is drawn back into action against a new villain, Lyutsifer Safin (Rami Malek), who possesses a dangerous bioweapon. Meanwhile, Bond’s past relationship with Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) resurfaces, forcing him to confront old wounds and trust issues.
As Bond teams up with MI6, including M (Ralph Fiennes), Q (Ben Whishaw), and the new 007, Nomi (Lashana Lynch), he faces one of his most personal and emotional missions. The film builds up to a dramatic and unexpected ending that reshapes Bond’s legacy.

Strengths
Daniel Craig’s Performance – Craig delivers one of his best performances as Bond, portraying a mix of toughness, vulnerability, and emotional weight. His farewell to the role is powerful and well-executed.
Stunning Action Sequences – The film features breathtaking action, from the thrilling chase in Matera, Italy, to the intense shootouts in Safin’s lair. The practical effects and cinematography make each scene visually spectacular.
Emotional Depth – Unlike previous Bond films, No Time to Die adds more emotional stakes, particularly in Bond’s relationship with Madeleine and the film’s shocking finale.

Strong Supporting Cast – Lashana Lynch brings a fresh take as the new 007, Ana de Armas shines in a short but memorable action-packed role, and Rami Malek adds a chilling presence as the villain.
Memorable Score and Theme Song – Hans Zimmer’s score elevates the film’s tension and emotion, while Billie Eilish’s No Time to Die theme song perfectly sets the tone.

Weaknesses
Weak Villain Development – While Rami Malek delivers a sinister performance, Safin’s motivations feel underdeveloped, and he lacks the depth of previous Bond villains like Silva (Skyfall) or Le Chiffre (Casino Royale).
Pacing Issues – The film’s runtime of nearly three hours makes some parts feel slower than necessary, particularly in the middle section.
Limited Screen Time for Key Characters – Characters like Ana de Armas’ Paloma and Christoph Waltz’s Blofeld have short but impactful appearances, leaving audiences wanting more.
Verdict
No Time to Die is an action-packed and emotionally gripping farewell to Daniel Craig’s Bond. While it has some pacing issues and a somewhat underdeveloped villain, the film excels in delivering a thrilling and heartfelt conclusion. It’s a must-watch for Bond fans and a fitting end to Craig’s era as 007.
